Joe, When I bought my KR project, one wing was already built using the Diehl skins. For other reasons, I needed to provide an access hole all the way through the wing both in front and behind the main spar. I used a set of clamp on drill extensions (like the Irwin 43907 auger bit extension) and a small hole saw and went all the way through the wing just in front of the spar, then once again just aft of the back of the fuel tank. It would have been no big deal to string a wire through to provide wiring for lighting. In fact, thinking back on it, I may have strung the strobe and lighting wires through that hole in the left wing? Anyway, it only took a few minutes to bore my way through the wing from the butt end to 18" short of the end of the spar. From there, you would only have to drill a hole in the wing tip where you plan to mount the light, then stick the drill extension through that hole to drill the outermost rib, and you would have access to run wiring from the butt to the tip of the wing. If I remember correctly, I only needed to use 4 extensions to accomplish the task.
Jeff Scott Los Alamos, NM ----- Original Message ----- Kindly request sage advice on do-ability or insanity of *adding strobes*and/or position lights to *completed wings?* Inherited 3/4 completed KR2 that has Diehl wing skins. Wings are primed, and nicely crafted--at least in the unexperienced opinion of this new owner. Thank-you, Joe Walburn, noob _______________________________________
