Yes, I split mine when I built the larger tail so either half of the elevator
can be removed. Some pictures of it are on my web site at
<http://jscott.comlu.com> You'll have to drill down into the KR site, then the
tail mods. I used two aluminum plates to box in and capture the spars. I don't
recall how many bolts through each spar half now. but from looking at the
photos, it looks like a total of 8 AN3 bolts through the spar plates capturing
the two spar halves. The elevator bellcrank is also mounted to the two bolts
that go through the center between the two spar halves. I have roughly 370
hours flight time with this configuration.

Subject: KR> dividing the elevator

As I have some major rework to do on the fin and sternpost, I was wondering
about dividing the elevator into two halves and using, say, two L shaped metal
pieces bridging the now divided spar so they form a box around the spar and
bolted with two bolts (3/8?) o9n each side. This would make it easy to remove
for maintenance / painting ...... Comments would be appreciated. Has this been
done before? Can't find anything in the archives .... Cheers Martin Pearce
