Larry, I have the same transponder. When you turn it on you should initially put it on the STB (standby) position. The green light will illuminate steady for twenty seconds while the unit warms up. Once the light goes off turn the knob to on position and continue to ALT (altitude) position if you want to transmit altitude. The green light will flash briefly every time it gets pinged by a radar signal. You can test the unit by turning the knob to TST (test) and if working properly the green light will illuminate and stay on as long as you hold it in the test position.
