Just a couple of thoughts which I hope may help: Rule #1 for balancing
anything: Check the track before you start anything. Place something on the
ground and line up with the prop tip and then rotate the prop through to see
that the other tip(s) are tracking the same. There may be a slight variation
but anything that you can easily see means Stop and find out what's wrong. I've
seen stuff like metal caught between the prop flange and crank flange which
makes the blades run with different angles of attack. You can not balance an
out of track prop. If it does balance out on the ground it will change during
flight and be putting strain on the crank the whole time. The DynaVibe does in
fact indicate the "heavy spot" on the reading according to their instructions.
If there is no weight on the prop to start with add weight 180° out from the
location of the reading. My background is tuning and experimentation on
military helicopters for a manufacturer so if
it keeps giving you proplems I'll be glad to help you create a tuning phase
chart which should take some of the guesswork out.

Hope that helps,

GT

Dan

I used the Dynavibe once and if I remember correctly you have to place the
balance weights 180 out according to how the accelerometer is installe d.

Subject: KR> Still Balancing Engine

I spent most of today continuing the effort to balance my engine, and so
far, nothing has worked.  The results are nothing but confusing.  I
contacted Dynavibe and they told me what to do, which did clarify things,
but still no results.  I degreed the spinner bulkhead plate and put blind
nuts every 30 degrees, thinking that would make it easier to accomplish this
task, and it does, but still placing the weight does not correct the
problem, only makes it worse.  I am sending my documentation to Dynavibe to
see if I can find out what I am doing wrong.  It is really bugging me
because this is supposed to be really easy.

A couple of new pics showing how I set up the spinner bulkhead.
