Yep, probably not needed, as the VW doesn't even come with that kind of "head gasket" from the factory. The Corvair does come from the factory with them, probably because of the three cylinders per head...a more challenging sealing situation. I use the copper gaskets to fine-tune the compression ratio, since they come in several thicknesses. That's why I sent the link to the compression ratio page.
