Thanks for the help and pictures.  Your brake pedal system looks like the 
approach I will use.

My pedals are top mounted with the master cylinders on the pedal
assembly and work just fine.  It's a matter of getting the location
and geometry correct.

If you have the light weight Rand pedals, you will need to strengthen
the corners with a gusset or similar fix.  My right pedal broke at
the corner weld at about 430 hours of flight time.  The only thing
I've added that is not in the picture is an "L" bracket on the
outside edges of the pilots pedals to better help locate my feet.  I
like the top mounted pedals as I can stretch my feet through the
pedal assembly all the way to the firewall for a more comfortable
ride on long cross country flights.
