>Are the KR's aerobatic?

The KR's are capable of limited aerobatics, basically loops and
rolls, if you watch the speed and G loads. In the U.S., the
maneuvers must be performed during the initial phase 1 test period
and proven to be safe in order to perform them legally after the test
phase 1 is signed off. I'm guessing that in my case I could put the
KR back in to a test phase, perform the maneuvers, and then put it
back in to phase 2 but that is strictly a guess on my part.

I discussed qualifying aerobatic maneuvers with my FAA FSDO inspector during
my KR-2 airworthiness inspection. He said that the maneuvers had to be
performed during the Phase 1 testing and make log book entries listing the
allowed maneuvers. Only these tested maneuvers would be legal during Phase
2.
Obviously, if you wanted to do negative g maneuvers, then suitable inverted
oil and fuel systems would be required. Wearing parachutes are required.
Five-point aerobatic harness would be nice but not required. My inspector
inquired as to opening or jettisoning the canopy in flight. I told him
neither was an option. He said since you cannot exit the aircraft in
flight, aerobatic maneuvers would not be legal.
My FSDO inspector said the if I wanted to qualify aerobatic maneuvers in
Phase 2, I must send a letter to the FSDO stating my intent to go back to
Phase 1, do the testing and make log book entries, and then send another
letter to the FSDO requesting Phase 2. Do not expect either letter to the
FSDO to be acknowledged. The FSDO will simply put the letters in the
aircraft folder for record purposes.
