I am currently using Foreflight on a 1st generation IPAD with wifi and 3G. Works fine for flight planning at home, keep it on my knee in the airplane during flights. Yes there is some washout from sun glare but I also use a GPS96 in the cockpit for navigation.

I really like the orizontal view in the SkyDemon, which they call the radar view. Jepp also as one with this view. These are very expensive, so I don't want to jump ithout investigating.
