Short grass strips are a problem, but longer bumpy grass fields in Holland as
well. My question to you is: do you land with power or power of?
In my experience (now 30 hours and 65 landings on my KR2S (PH-OMI)at different
fields in Holland)landing on a bumpy grass field power off results in a bump
when the touch down point is far from a clean flat surface you want it to be.
Low speed, no power and therefore less controllable elevator and rudder makes
the grass bump an anxious experience with a large chance of loosing attitude
control.
A powered landing at 1600 to 1800 RPM solves my problem, both with flaps and
even flapless. After touch down immediate power idle, elevator up and brakes,
results in more smooth grass landings.
All the best, Cees Jansen

Refreshing confession! I have been too timid to mention it myself. Short
narrow grass strips of less than 2000 feet are not inviting. For many of us
that is all we can afford.

Subject: KR> KR2 flying

Today I logged my 51st KR2 landing in 15 hours of flying, and probably my
fifth at M38 (short and narrow home field). Today was the first time I
didn't scare myself to death...it was actually a decent landing. I love it
while it's flying, but landing is not my favorite flight regime. No flaps or
belly board make this thing a whole 'nuther ballgame when it comes to short
fields. "Regular" runways are a piece of cake, however.

And the best thing I can say about the POSa carb is that it hasn't succeeded
in killing me, yet! That's going to get fixed soon!

More later, I'm sure...
