Another reason not to carry full hull insurance is that if you ever DO
file a claim, you've just marked yourself as somebody who doesn't
hesitate to file a claim, and insurance companies immediately shy away
from such "risks".  Your rates will almost certainly climb
significantly, and you may even become uninsurable!

Also, if you think like I do, if you ever tear your airplane up, you'd
much rather have all the left over parts to build another one than for
the insurance company to haul them all away so you get to start "from
scratch" to build your next one...

There was another airplane that left its tie down spot by itself during
some high winds and damaged the tail of my aircraft.  My insurance
covered it and my rates did not go up.  Granted, this incident had
nothing to do with me as a pilot, so things may be different if you are
found at fault.

If you do have an incident where your aircraft is declared a total loss
with full hull coverage, you generally have the option to negotiate to
keep what's left and take a reduced payoff.

Insurance companies are like any other business, and can't stay in
business if they continually tick off their customers.  Use a quality
insurance broker and your chances of running into the sleazeball
companies is likely to be minimized.  If you are concerned with being
able to keep your airplane after a total loss, talk with them about it
before buying the policy.

Anyone in the Ontario region remember Alan Dares and a KR that had the markings 
C-GKRD ?
I don't think it was ever given final inspection but he had reserved those 
letters for awhile.
They are currently in use in Alberta for a totally different airplane.

My prop is at 3 and 9 on the Lancair which makes it a little harder to hand 
prop. ?I talked to ?a guy at Hartzell who said that props were put at 2 an 8 
back when most planes didn't have electric starters so they would be easier to 
start. ?I also talked with an RV owner who also said he did the same as me. ?I 
also did my KR but didn't see much difference. ?The VW is a very smooth engine 
anyway. ?I left the Mooney at the factory setting which, is not a good location 
for a smooth engine. ?

I meant to ask how that lined up the prop for hand propping. Did it

Buy liability insurance then, set up an escrow account tagged KR airplane. ?Put 
the extra money you was going to pay on insurance in that account and if you 
crack it up you will probably be dollars ahead. ?The only problem is if you 
damage someone's property.

I never said "don't buy liability insurance", and I certainly have that,
  although I know several pilots who don't even buy that.  I will say
that my "beanfield incident" cost me $47 in mowed down corn, so that is
a valid concern.  But I got a lot more than $47 in assistance from the
farmer...he helped us load the plane in the truck with his Bobcat!   But
yes....I do know that the wrong kind of incident could bankrupt someone
without liability insurance, which is why I carry it.

And I adopted the concept of a savings account (named "fuselage") for
airplane purposes about thirty years ago.  That's how I built N56ML, and
how I'll finance my next airplane, or rebuild of N56ML, which I'm now
leaning towards doing instead.  I have a huge headstart on a very nice
KR2S that I already know is an awesome airplane...
