Larry, thanks for the close-ups. I think sometimes we need to see something different to jar our creativity. Control linkages are one of those things and when you're looking at something that moves "this-a-way" but you want it to actuate something that goes "that-a-way" and you can't imagine how to translate one motion into the other, linkages are the way. It's just that it is often not obvious how to do that unless you sit there fiddling with things or you see something that provides the "aha!"
