After some trouble shooting and repair I seemed to have fixed my major oil leak. With Jeff Scott's knowledge and insight, I was able to locate and repair a bad seal on the #1 cylinder intake valve push rod tube boot seal. Another short flight showed no major leaks. I did have one strip of oil on the belly so I'm not done yet. But, to add data to the knowledge base, we now know that nearly 4 quarts of oil passes through the head area and returns down the push rod tube back to the case.
Other minor concerns are: #4 cylinder base seems to be weeping a bit of oil, other three are as dry as the day I installed them. Some evidence of oil from the bottom of the case half. I'm considering getting access to that area and torque the case bolts to the upper limits of the spec's. Front main and accessory case are all good except for the old pull starter plunger is weeping some oil. That's easily removed and a new seal installed. So, for now it's clean and fly, check for leaks, clean and fly,........................
One the up side, I calculated my true airspeed on a short flat out run and I was making 182 MPH !!! On climb out I was seeing 1200 to 1300 FPM climb at 110MPH indicated. I suspect both of these will improve a bit as I only have less than 2 hours on the overhaul and CHT's are still a bit high, running in the 380 degrees range right now.
I'll let you know how things work out. Larry Flesner _______________________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at https://www.mail-archive.com/krnet@list.krnet.org/.
