Hi Marty,

Welcome to the group - and good luck with N395JT!

N395JT is sure a nice looking airplane (from the pictures) and you can’t beat
the price.

You’ll find ownership of an experimental very very different from flying a
rental.

One of the biggest differences and something very important if you want to live
is the attention to maintenance and excellence in operation.

For example, the VW engine can be very economical and reliable, but only if its
set up and treated right. Even then, shite happens.

First call Revmaster with the serial number of the engine and ask about safety
mods. Then remove the propeller, balance it exactly, ensure the prop hub is
correctly tightly torqued, and then remount the prop ensuring exact tracking.
It must not be outside 1/16th inch off track. Be sure to watch temperatures
closely, and don’t run out of gas.

If you skimp or cheap out on maintenance - it will cost you.

While operational costs can be lower if you do a lot of flying, there are very
few experimental with over 1000 hours in their entire lives. Why? Lots of
reasons - from issues more focused on the owner, to issues with maintenance and
safety/comfort of flight. So if you end up only flying very few hours in the
experimental - total cost is way more expensive per hour than rental.

If your goal is simply to build hours and fly - you might consider a
partnership in a 150 or 172.

Also, 440 lbs of humans in a KR is pushing it to say the least - and my guess
is you couldn’t even fit it into the tiny KR2.

But that aside, that KR is an beautiful, economical, and excellent cross
country flier.

Cheers,
Owen
