Grass Runways.
Information about landing on grass runways... Having big tyres helps especially on the tail. A pneumatic tyre gives better grip than a hard small tyre that just skips around on the surface. The shortest distance my KR2 landed in was 1,350 feet 450 meters, the runway was 1,380 feet 460 meters, the brakes got hot. The runway was very rough tarmac, had a slight downhill slope and the wind was calm. That was without flaps or speed brakes as they are not fitted on my plane. But you had to get it right, fly the plane on to the end of the runway, no flaring and hit the brakes. I wouldn't want to repeat that landing too many times as it was quite risky, but a long story short, there was little choice. There is a video of landing on different surfaces with a write up of technique here if so desired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FJuTyf2sJc [https://www.bing.com/th?id=OVP.5lu51YLTcnwOkoqo0pRy8QEsCo&pid=Api]<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FJuTyf2sJc> Kr2 landings HD<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FJuTyf2sJc> www.youtube.com Different approaches in my KR2. 1st is Vagar on the Faeroe Isles, 2nd TKM on Iceland a 500 meter grass strip, 3rd Kulusuk a gravel strip in Greenland, 4th Nuuk ... _______________________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/.
