Whatever you do (and I'm sure you've done this), make sure the engine
will run smoothly at full throttle for 10-15 seconds. When it gets for
what passes as cold in north Alabama, I take off a little shy of full
rich, and lean it once I get to pattern altitude and know that I can get
back to the runway if I have to. Jones should know that engine inside
and out, and since it was flying only a few months ago, it's probably
safer to get familiar with how it acts, before you go tearing it apart.
Having had one apart, I can tell you that there's not a lot that a
regular human being can do inside the main body, other than clean it
out, and given the inlet filter, you shouldn't find anything inside.
The pressure regulator can be replaced, but that's about all the parts
you can swap, without having the factory deal with it. By the way,
"Ellison" is now owned and operated by Steve Glover, last I heard.
