No need to turn this in to brain surgery. I used a spring I found in a blacksmith shop that came from a 1930 something automobile. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fi9iha1a87xr4ti/IMG_8714.JPG?dl=0 It has been problem free for 15 years now. I gave Mark Langford a left over piece and it worked great for him also. It measures approx 1.75 inches wide and 1/4 inch thick. I cold bent it in a (big ass) vise and drilled holes with standard drill bit. I dressed down the end to attach to an Aviation Produces tail wheel assembly and later added a Matco 6" pneumatic wheel. Perfect !!! I haven't checked it out but I'm thinking a golf cart spring would work well.
