I called Powerstride just now and was told the NEPO M44L is still
available from them. They have locations around the country, plus
distribution centers in Texas and a few other states. Shipping is free
if you have to order it by mail.

I paid $110 for it four years ago, picking it up at the local Powerstride
warehouse. It seems all these decent KR batteries cost around $100 so
might as well get the most for your money since they all cost about the
same.

Despite its lawn-tractor dimensions, the M44L is noticibly heavier than a
typical lawn tractor battery, so that's a possible factor when shopping.
It was/is ideal for me because of the size of my existing battery holder
and its strongly-supported location on the hatshelf. It's also ideal for
me because of my puny alternator and heavy electrical demand with night
approaches and landings. Larry's AGM is smaller, lighter, has good
specs, plus I'm sure he has a high capacity alternator. In my case I
wanted the largest margin of electrical capacity I could get in the
lawn-tractor form factor.

If anyone else is in my situation (needing maximum battery capacity in a
lawn-tractor size) Powerstride says they still carry the M44L. If
ordering, I'd make sure before ordering that it looks just like the one
in my pictures. I mention this to avoid possible confusion since when
looking on line I found somebody selling what they are calling an M44L
for which they gave no specs, was obviously not an AGM, and looked very
different. The pictures at my site below are downloadable.
