OMG it is only 34 days until we are in KR bliss again. I have missed the last couple of Gatherings and am really looking forward to this years Gathering. The awards categories for this year and future years has changed. This was done so that more planes are award winners. In the past we had six awards and one airplane could take home the majority of the awards. I have been attending gatherings since 1998 and many years a single airplane would take home most of the awards. This can be awkward for the winner and also for those who deserved an award but did not get recognition. Heck, one year I won "Firewall Forward" and in my opinion there were better installations than mine. Anyway, here are the new categories:
GRAND CHAMPION KR This award is the top award for the overall best judged KR. Winning this award makes you and your plane the Grand Kahuna. It gives you strutting rights and allows you to gloat... PEOPLES CHOICE KR This award is given by popular vote and speaks for itself. HONORABLE MENTION KR (3 awards to be presented in this category) There will be three of these awards given out. They replace the previous categories of "Best Firewall Forward" , "Best Paint" and "Best Interior". These will be the top three planes scored by the EAA point judging system. FARTHEST DISTANCE FLOWN KR This also speaks for itself. With these new categories the most a single plane can win is three awards. And we could actually have six different winners if the cards fell right. See all of you at the gathering.
