I must be missing something why not do it right and be done with it. VFR check 
every two years IFR check every year. VFR best to be within 100 feet plus or 
minus IFR is within 50 feet plus or minus leak down time is different between 
VFR and IFR you’re only talking a couple hundred dollars most avionics shops 
will come out to an airport if not fly it over to an airport. Transponder is 
required above 10,000 feet and in class B airspace.
