I think this is a bad idea (aluminum foil). The foil could come loose and
potentially clog the strainer, filters, etc.

I would never trust that to keep the fuel from getting around the edges. If
have to use a vulnerable resin and the fuel it may be vulnerable to, better
to slosh with known reliable barrier.
