Well, we really gave it a try this weekend. The Alabama guys and I tried to get down to Victor's place in St Elmo, Alabama. We had planned to make the trip on Saturday. When we made this plane, the forecast was calling for sunshine in Alabama for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and was calling for sunshine and nice weather at my place in Arkansas for Thursday through Sunday. The forecasters still aren't so good at their art, and lots of things just didn't work out.
Mark bailed first on Thursday after a friend at work passed away. On Friday I flew to southern Alabama to visit a friend there planning to fly on down to St Elmo this morning. Mike bailed on us late Friday after looking at the forecast. I had to bail this morning due to low ceilings and steady rain in Alabama. The forecast for Arkansas changed as well with Low ceilings and rain moving in Sunday morning, meaning I needed to fly home on Saturday. So, my apologies to Victor, who was all set to feed us, as none of us made it in our KRs. The weather cleared where I was in Alabama just in time for me to fly back to Northern AR. But, for those still building that are interested in real world performance, here are my numbers for the last two days. I flew 5 hours round trip from Northern AR to south central Alabama and back. Burned a total of 28.2 gallons of fuel, and covered 663 nautical miles. That gave me an average speed of 132 knots (151 mph), average fuel burn of 5.6 gph, with a fuel efficiency of 23.5 NM/gal (27 MPG). Weather wise, I had tailwinds in one direction and headwinds in the other. As for our meet up, The only ones that made it were Victor, who was hosting and building a KR and Jeff Cain, who is interested in building a KR. Those of us that were flying KRs, got weathered out again. -Jeff Scott Arkansas Ozarks. _______________________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/.
