Wow, Jeff Scott without his KR....something just not right about that. :-)
Wish I was in a position to acquire it, just for its historical significance
and it being the KR I am most familiar with.
Can't wait to see the "new" RV project!

Well guys, I knew he day would come some day, and now it is here. After 23
years and 1250 hours of flying fun, the time has finally come to part with my
faithful KR. No, I don't have any medical issues, nor am I getting out of
aviation. In fact, I have gone to the dark side and bought a damaged RV-6 as a
rebuild project. The RV just suits the needs for my wife and I better at this
stage of our lives. So, while it breaks my heart to part with my trusty KR,
the time has arrived. It's one of those few planes that I fall in love with
all over again every time I fly it. Yes, I'm waxing poetic (for me) as I had it
out just this afternoon.
So, for those that might be interested, here is a plane to contemplate. My
KR-2S is now for sale. Anyone that attends the KR Gatherings should be
familiar with it. This is a really top notch KR and has been awarded numerous
awards, including Best KR at the annual KR Gatherings in 2002, 2009, and 2014
as well as best firewall forward, best interior and numerous other awards from
the gatherings as well as regional fly-ins. It is an early model KR-2S that
was stretched before the -2S plan addendum existed. It is well equipped and as
nice handling KR as one could ever fly.
It is equipped with an Xcom dual channel comm radio, Sandia Aerospace STX-165
Solid State Transponder, uAvionix Echo UAT ADS-B Out, 4 point analog CHT/EGT,
and Dynon D1 Attitude Indicator. It has 4 USB charging ports in the cockpit to
power whatever electronics trip your trigger. It has the Diehl wing, an extra
large 8' span horizontal stab and elevator with the 0009 airfoil with Ray Allen
electric trim on the stick, large aerodynamic wing root fairings, large and
effective electric flaps that hinge about 1" aft of the rear spar and drop to
38°, tall 30" gear legs, real 5:00x5 tires with Cleveland brakes and RV wheel
fairings. It has a Prince 62dx66p propeller, and a polished carbon fiber
spinner. There is also a servo operated cowl flap for the engine compartment
that further reduces drag for cruise. It has a reasonably good heater for
winter flying as well.
The engine is an O-200-A with 900 hrs SMOH and roughly 250 hrs since all new
top end including NEW Superior Cylinders, 8.5:1 O-200-D pistons, Dual Pmags
(with two preprogrammed timing curves) using NGK automotive plugs and
automotive plug wires, light weight B&C starter, light weight Plane Power
Alternator, Light Weight high energy EarthX battery. I built custom tuned
headers for it. There is no question this KR is a performer in both climb and
cross country performance. I built it specifically for use at my home airport
at the time which was above 7000' MSL. It is a fabulous performer at sea level
with climb at typically 1300 - 1500 fpm depending on OAT and loading, and level
speeds of 140 - 160kts (161 - 185 mph) depending on how hard I want to push the
engine. Normal economy cruise is typically 5-1/2 GPH at 140 kts (161 mph).
While light, I have climbed it as high s 17,999' on a winter day (any higher
would be illegal for VFR). I have always run this engine on primarily Mogas
with about 20% 100LL mixed in to prevent possible valve recession, although I
don't think that would be an issue with the modern valves and seats. The
engine is content to run on 91 AKI Mogas year round. The compression leakdown
test on this engine has checked 79/80 cold on all 4 cylinders every year since
I installed the new top end.
The plane is not without it's bugs and quirks, but is really not in need of
anything and to the best of my knowledge has no major maintenance issues coming
due. My next step this year was going to be to install an autopilot, but other
things got in the way. So, if someone is seriously interested in this plane, I
would encourage that person to come spend a few days with me while we do an
annual inspection of the airframe and engine. I don't hide problems or issues,
so you'll see everything and have ample opportunity to question and inspect
anything. I can deliver it for costs anywhere in the continental US. It is
not currently advertised anywhere, and won't be for a month or so as right now,
I have too many other balls in the air and just don't have the time to deal
with it. But I'm putting it here on the KRNet first to give anyone that may be
interested the chance to mull it over for a while. Expect it to be priced at
$20,500. You couldn't build another KR to match this one for close to this
price, so my years of experimenting and labor are effectively free.
