This thread has certainly taken a grim turn but it is one we must
consider as builders of an aircraft that allows so many options. If we
were building an RV we'd hardly have options on even the tail wheel.
When working on an "optional" part of the airplane consider all possible
failure modes and decide what personal risk you are willing to take in
cases of failure and what you can do to reduce those risk. My first two
concerns when building the KR were roll over and fire. I went with a
fixed windshield with a rather robust windshield bow and turtle deck
bow and moved all fuel to the outer wings. Those were my concerns.
What are yours and what are you doing to minimum risk? With so many
choices it difficult to get them all right. Not every failure ends in
tragedy but zero failures is the goal we shoot for. Keep building
and good luck ..................
