Thank so much Parley for the excellent information on converting the Rand Robinson drum breaks into Hydraulic breaks. Since you have done your conversion nearly 30 years ago, so I don't think Aircraft Spruce still offer anything like that for my KR2 which can fit into the same landing gear structure for the same retractable configuration...?!
Anyways, I just saw very encouraging reply from Mr. Colin (from UK perhaps) about converting into disk break with the same RR cable drum breaks... so I may want to try just that. I guess my easiest and most cost effective solution or experimenting on the break would be to first change the existing problematic drums with high quality part as you suggested? I hope I could still order a pair of high quality drums from somewhere (which just fit my wheels) like you suggested? I am hesitating to go for the major modifications (on both landing gear and break systems) is trying not to put extra weight on the bird, simply because I still like the design specs on speed and fuel consumptions according to KR's original design objectives, and hopefully it was not a exaggeration in the first place ... Frankly, the exciting KR design spec was the real bat that got me into this "deep woods".... I understand KR's design was trying to achieve cruise speed at around 185 mph with maximum of 200mph, and fuel consumptions only at around 3.5 to 4 gph and I was told the VW engine (2100D) can burn automobile gasoline without serious safety issues....?!
