The choices for training to fly a KR are very limited in terms of aircraft
selection, conventional taildraggers just don't have the power nor control
input sensitivity that the KR has and so flying these trainers do little with
the exception of directional control and over the nose anti-collision control,
both occurring while on the ground. Once the training aircraft is airborne, the
similarities (IMHO) stop. In an RV6, the lessons continue through most of the
flight to include input sensitivity and slow flight maneuvers. Having had my
hands on an RV6 I feel better prepared to fly my KR than when I flew a
Citabria.
Just my thoughts...

I too, very much appreciated the RV ride that Jeff offered me  during the KR
gathering! I am grateful to his his generous training! Nevertheless, I was
scared a heck of a lot when Jeff shock the stick suddenly after asking me to
get the air speed up to 150kt, as I literally jumped out of my seat....
It was also a hack of experience when Jeff asked and insisted me to reduce the
air speed to nearly 52mph before the bird called for a quit momentarily!!
Kindly,
Dr. Hsu

I had the pleasure of riding with Jeff as he put me through the paces in
preparation to fly my KR's initial flight. Though it is widely understood that
neither airplane resembles the other, they share similar flight characteristics
so closely that a KR pilot can actually prepare to fly the KR by getting stick
time in an RV. I know cause I have access to an RV6 and an RV10 which I get to
fly regularly. I know that the RV10 has a massive engine (compared to my VW)
but it's the stick time that counts. The RV6 has maneuverability, the
tailwheel, an over-the-nose sight picture while on the ground, and many other
similar characteristics to the KR.

I know I will never find an exact duplicate trainer unless I fly another KR, so
for the time being, flying an RV fits the bill for me. and as for Jeff's
generosity, I thank him from the bottom of my heart for his time and investment
to help me prepare to fly my KR.
