On the ADS-B issue Jeff and others have forgotten more than I'll ever
know about ADS-B but here is what works for me.
I purchased a Stratux dual band ADS-B (in) receiver, fully assembled, at
Oshkosh several years ago for $200. Here is one on Amazon with battery pack

I use an $80, 10" tablet and run IFLY software that WIFI connects to
Stratux. I use the uAvionics wing tip ADS-B out. I wanted the tail
unit but they were unavailable when I went to purchase.

I'm using a KT76A, mode C transponder available on ebay of under $250

My tablet has internal GPS receiver. I have no idea what antennas the
other equipment have but I have NO EXTERNAL ANTENNAS. I've pulled up
several reports off the web on my ADS-B performance and they have always
been error free except for some code way at the bottom under "other"
that indicates momentary reception problem which it indicates is a non
issue. All I've ever done is hook this stuff up to aircraft power, turn
it on, synced my tablet wifi to the Stratux, and when installing the
wingtip "OUt" unit, programing it with a smart phone.
As always.......YRMV...........
