I started with a reliable Matco tailwheel assembly but switched after a
bit to the Aviation Products, Inc

to knock a couple of pounds off the tail weight. I then modified that
unit to take a 6" pneumatic wheel / tire. That is the only assembly I
recommend given 15 years of service with only an occasional stroke or
two of grease. I'd even recommend you change the tail spring if they
are not compatible but I found them out of stock everywhere as you did.
Don't that put a fly in your soup. Maybe some kind builder that has a
unit on a project that won't fly for 6 months or so would send you one
and you reorder them a replacement. Are you feeling lucky today????
