When I dropped a valve seat I had just left the KR Gathering and I was at 10,000’ and 13 miles from the nearest airport which happened to be Metropolis, Illinois. I heard Superman lives there! Anyway, the engine kept running but would only produce about 14,000 RPM. It would not hold altitude but I managed to milk her all the way to the runway. Thank God I had that much altitude to work with.
