If the 'experts' were right, then all the aluminum monocoque fuselages used by Cessna, Luscombe, Beech, Ryan, Vans, Zenith, etc. are automatically death traps in turbulence, not to mention steel tube truss types.

It is true that wood flexes more than some other building materials, but it's not a design imperative to use wood flexure as an 'archery bow' spring
type design answer to flying loads absorbtion.
