I responded to an e-mail from Tyler and later realized the reply went only to Tyler (I think).   I'm guessing the info might be useful to other potential builders also so I'm sharing it with the net.  Opposing or differing views welcome.

Tyler,

To my knowledge, the plans for the KR of any model has never been "LEGALLY" available on the internet.  And now the owner of the plans is no longer selling them either.  If you can locate a set of "standard KR2" plans it would be possible, with input from the net, to enlarge to the size of KRs like Chris Price or Roger Baalman, , Mike Sylvester, just a few of the finest examples flying.  Other countries in Europe and around the world have produced some stunning KRs also.  A fair amount of research and planning would have to be done up front but anything is possible if given the effort.  I spent 13 years, off and on, building mine but with dedicated effort that time could be shortened considerably.  Jeff Scott did some amazing work on his KR and flew it off a mountain top out west for many years.  Do your research, decide what changes you want to make to the original, and get started.  A workbench and shop would be # 2 after getting a set of plans and deciding what you want to build.

The KR with it's type of construction lends itself well to changes in the design.  Just know how the changes will affect the safety of the structure and handling characteristics of the finished product and use commonly accepted building practices and acceptable quality parts.  Building a KR is not rocket science as evidenced by the numbers built and flying with all the changes builders have made to their individual airplanes.  At the same time there have been many built that didn't work out that well either.

So, get started by going to www.krnet.org and check out the many builder sites,  track down a set of plans through the KR net,  and start deciding on what you want your KR to be.  Every day delayed is one less day you'll have to fly.

If possible , attend the KR Gathering at Mt.Vernon in September.
