Hi all,

First post here, so I'll keep it tight. I'm based at KROA (Roanoke, VA),
EAA Chapter 646 member, currently working through PPL training on
DA-20/DA-40, and pursuing the Experimental Aircraft Builder's Repairman
Certificate alongside it. Background is clinical research, so I tend to
approach builds the way I'd approach a study protocol —
documentation-heavy, methodical, not in a hurry to skip steps.

I'm genuinely undecided between a KR-2S and a FreeBird and would rather get
real input from people who've actually built or are building one than guess
from spec sheets. A few things I'm hoping the group can help with:

   - *Current state of kit/plans support for the KR-2S* — I've seen mixed
signals about sourcing (kits, plans, parts availability) and would rather
hear from people with recent firsthand experience than go off a website.
   - *Current state of FreeBird plans support* (freebirdplans.org) —
responsiveness, completeness of the plan set, how active that side of
   things is right now.
   - *Real timelines and real total costs* for either airframe — not
brochure numbers, what it actually took.
   - *Biggest regret or bottleneck* anyone hit partway through, on either
   design.
   - *Is a partially-built project a realistic buy right now* for either
KR-2S or FreeBird, or is starting from raw plans the more dependable path
   today?
   - *Engine/FWF choices people are actually flying* — I know the usual
suspects (VW, Subaru, Jabiru, Corvair) but want current real-world
   experience over spec sheets.
   - If there's a smaller group of active builders/flyers I should reach
out to directly rather than asking the whole list, point me that way and
I'm happy to move it offline.

I've spent some time in the archive already and will keep follow-up
technical questions narrower and take them offline once I know who's
actively working these airframes.

Thanks for having me,
Babak Fazeli
