The POSIX.1-2008 standard has been recently approved.

In POSIX, the file descriptor must be a directory file descriptor.

Introducing new functionality now without discussing this in the opengroup
mailing list does not look like a good idea.

BTW: When will Solaris support O_SEARCH and other new POSIX flags?
