... I don't know (yet) what is going wrong. Using a reduced version of
the script doesn't trigger the crash... it seems somehow some kind of
error is "accumulating" and finally hits in the Fortran part of the
"configure" script... ;-( That's why I hoped to see more via "bcheck" -
if there is any memory corruption before the crash "bcheck" will likely
show it...

Ok... but my SPARC seems to hit the problem on a regular basis... but I
don't know why.
