Alan> If we are replacing utilities like sleep(1) then we should be using Alan> the GNU versions not the ksh93 versions,
Jennifer> Now the great Alan Burlison comes and declares the work largest Jennifer> Opensolaris team outside Sun as unnecessary. Can everyone please back off on the snarky rhetoric? Alan was expressing his opinion, not Sun's. For better or worse (and most of us agree that it's better, though at somewhat more cost than hoped), ksh93 is in Solaris and some bugs are being worked out. As the technical lead for ON, authority is granted to me to make technical decisions such as whether ksh93, or certain updates thereto, stay or get backed out until everything is more stable. To that end, Casper has agreed to sponsor Roland's latest fix (for 6807179, the "~" problem), thus helping the system as a whole continue to improve. I see this as part of a steady flow of progress, and have no intentions of backing out the "ksh93 update 1" that April integrated into build 106 on Roland's behalf. So please: let's all get back to working on improving Solaris instead of arguing about it and second-guessing others' intentions. -- John http://blogs.sun.com/jbeck
