Technicially there is no "default". POSIX demands that all "set -o"-based flags are set to "false" when a shell starts, however this excludes any system-wide or user preference files (e.g. /etc/ksh.kshrc and ~/.kshrc for interactive shells) because they are read after shell startup (Ok, that is not the precise definition but technicially it works like that). At least on OpenSuSE/SuSE 10.2 "set -o multiline" was introduced (in the default /etc/ksh.kshrc file) per user feedback and it's was also applied to SuSE Enterprise Linux 10, too (I don't have any RedHat/Fedora box around for testing, however this flag is new in ksh93r but was quickly adopted by SuSE - it cannot be that bad... :-) ). > Also, while I appreciate your efforts to make ksh93 on Solaris the best > that it can be, I recommend putting a freeze on changes like this, > unless you think they're critical to the initial putback. Ok... the "multiline" thing was the last item on my "feature" list... ---- Bye, Roland -- __ . . __ (o.\ \/ /.o) roland.mainz at nrubsig.org \__\/\/__/ MPEG specialist, C&&JAVA&&Sun&&Unix programmer /O /==\ O\ TEL +49 641 7950090 (;O/ \/ \O;)
