Interesting...

just found, when I run the script as root it works, but as a
normal user it still does not. I assume you ran it as 'root'
on sparc, Casper?

# id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root)

# ./ttt.ksh
 From main program:
  trying to trap SIGINT ...signal INT trapped

  trying to trap SIGQUIT ...signal QUIT trapped

  trying to trap SIGTERM ...signal TERM trapped

  trying to trap SIGHUP ...signal HUP trapped

end
