Dear Kubernetes User,
If you are using Kubernetes version 1.1 or higher, you can stop reading now. If you are using a version of Kubernetes version 1.0 or lower, this email applies to you (you can check your version using “kubectl version”). Google Container Registry has deprecated support for pushing and pulling from Docker version 1.5 and earlier (Docker deprecated[blog link <https://blog.docker.com/2015/10/docker-hub-deprecation-1-5/>] this functionality in 2015.). As a result, Kubernetes version 1.0 and lower will no longer be able to create new nodes, as several of the core Kubernetes components require pulling from Google Container Registry with Docker 1.5. As a result, your cluster may become unusable. In summary, we highly recommend upgrading to Kubernetes 1.1 or later. Will this change affect me? This change affects you if you are using a version of Kubernetes version 1.0 or lower. If this is the case, please upgrade Kubernetes to a later version (the latest version is recommended) by May 15, 2017. If you don’t, your Kubernetes clusters may start failing on that date. How do I upgrade my Kubernetes cluster? https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/cluster-administration/cluster-management/#upgrading-a-cluster Why is Container Registry no longer supporting Docker Registry V1? Docker Registry V2 (released in April 2015) resolved content-addressability, security, and other concerns with the original V1 registry, and Docker signaled its deprecation of V1 in Docker client V1.9 (released in November 2015). You can read more about Docker’s deprecation of V1 and Docker clients below version 1.6 in its 2015 blog post <https://blog.docker.com/2015/10/docker-hub-deprecation-1-5/> here.
