Today I did a fresh install from the Kubuntu Flight 6 install CD, and I can confirm this bug too. Without DPMS the screensaver not works. I just disbale dpms most of the time. However for workaround I just run a shell script from the ~/kde/Autostart directory which define a very high time preiod for DPMS.
