I installed desktop effects and enabled the desktop cube.
This caused all of the icons in my system tray to appear in a single line and
'hidden' applications to appear, specifically adept updater when it has "no
updates available" status.
I am using the 8.04 beta and installed desktop effects through the kmenu ->
System -> Desktop Effects
