You have been subscribed to a public bug:
There are several symptoms that all appear at the same time:
The keyboard stops responding, including the Lock lights.
Clicking one of the main menus (Applications, Places, System) doesn't open the
menu.
Clicking the Quit button on the panel doesn't open the dialogue.
The mouse can still be moved and the panels and open windows can still be
interacted with as usual
Notification area icons still work as usual.
I'm not sure whether program launchers still work.
Alt+Sys Rq does still work.
I have no proper steps to reproduce this though it's happened several
times now, seemingly at random.
This last time I'd just chosen Help → Report a bug in Thunderbird;
Apport claimed it was collecting crash details (even though Thunderbird
hadn't crashed) and then spawned a tab in Firefox; it was then that I
noticed the symptoms.
