I've found the same bug on two machines, both using kubuntu 8.04/kde
3.5.9.

New information:
On both machines, kde3 session management is broken (as described above) for 
users that have a ~/.kde4 directory.  For users that have no ~.kde4 directory, 
kde3 session management works fine.  Simply renaming ~/.kde4 doesn't solve the 
problem, but deleting ~/.kde4 does.
