Hello,
I used the kubuntu live CD on my computer, and had to configure manually
the network (which is normal because my DHCP server wasn't properly
configurated, so I had to set manually an IP address). However, when
using the kde graphical tool for configuring network interfaces, it
didn't saved the parameters I gave and kept on making DHCP requests and
use DHCP parameters instead of my parameters.
So, I had to use ifconfig to change the IP address, and to manually edit
/etc/resolv.conf to set the DNS IP.
I have to say my network does not have a common configuration : the IP range is
192.168.41.0/24, and the DNS is on another network, its IP is 10.0.92.1. The
gateway is 192.168.41.1, so the DNS requests are routed before they get to the
DNS server.
A consequence of this, is that I couldn't install Kubuntu : at about 83% of the
installation, when it starts downloading some things, it apparently
reconfigures the network automatically, and thus got a wrong IP again, and
consequently couldn't download anything (and apparently there's no timeout; it
just keeps trying and trying...). so I had to re-run ifconfig to set a correct
IP, re-edit /etc/resolv.conf, and it eventually worked.
After rebooting once Kubuntu installed on the HDD, using the kde
graphical tool worked, and my parameters were saved and everything is
working, so it's likely a live CD trouble.
