Hearing nothing from anybody about this one and being unable to resolve it on my own, I gave up. It seemed like the underpinnings of kpilot weren't well maintained at that point, but perhaps I misread the situation.
I now maintain my calendar & contact list on my PDA, back the thing up manually using pilot-xfer, and manage to hobble along like that. Not what I'd like to do, but Linux users can get used to the darndest inconveniences. Basically, I have nothing to add at this point; eventually I'll try 8.04 (or, more likely, 8.10), but that upheaval is not on the gotta-do heap right now. I'll file another bug if it still doesn't sync, in the hope somebody takes an interest before, oh, 9.04 arrives.
