You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After doing an update, a plain and innocent looking message comes up saying:
"A new distribution version is available! Click next if you wish to upgrade
now."

This can cause much trouble for someone who does not know the potential
ramifications. I feel that a warning about the magnitude of the
situation is in order. This is different than just installing and
uninstalling new software - there is no easy way back. A beginner who
has grown to trust Adept likely does not know this.

I recently witnessed someone upgrade from Kubuntu Hardy to Jaunty and
consequently losing their internet connection, ability to access a
second drive (it was NTFS), and being presented with a radically new
desktop environment. Things got sorted out over the next couple of
weeks, but this situation could have been extremely discouraging to a
beginner. From looking at the net, many other people doing the exact
same upgrade encountered this "surprise", but I think it could be
important with other upgrades as well. Again, perhaps a warning about
the potential ramifications of a version upgrade would be in order.
