I already start with an empty session by default, and I had tried the methods suggested for adding akonanditray to the ~/.config/autostart and then disabling it there, and this DID NOT work, even though indeed it shows up in the start up as "disabled". Clearly it seems like it should work. In fact, the ONLY method that I have found which does work is to edit the /usr/share/autostart desktop file for it, though this is a horrible solution since of course it will be replaced on each system update.
