I also have this on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 when using
nvidia-384.

Most workarounds do not work:
- Option "DRI3" "1" seems to have no effect.
- I'm already using lightdm (default) and not sddm, so the workaround of
replacing sddm is N/A.
- I can't use the open-source driver because of other bugs. Booting is a pain
and external monitors are not recognized.
- Even when one user is logged in, the problem manifests.

The only thing that works is to log out and back in, without
reconnecting any displays. But this is highly inconvenient and not a
viable solution.

Can we put more priority on this issue please? What is missing to get it
in a queue?
