Repeat the following 3 steps 5 times:
1. Select "configure toolbars."
2. Modify both the main and session toolbars.
3. Save the changes and exit the dialogue.
At this point the toolbars should start showing nonsense icons you did
not select.
I was also turning off the text for some icons.
Even resetting the icons stopped working. This made the toolbar unusable
for me.
