Hello All,

I have a Qemu image running WinXP. I originally set it up to use "User Mode
Networking" with Qemu under Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn" on a non-VMT-capable
system.

I am now running a dual-core, VMT capable system using Ubuntu 7.10 "Gutsy
Gibbon".

I installed KVM and my virtual machine image runs correctly.

My issue is with the network performance. It seems really sloooooow (this
has been the case all along).

I'm trying to understand better what sort of configuration should be used
with Ubuntu "Gutsy" with KVM and a "WinXP" guest O/S.

I sharing my Linux home directory to the Windows guest via Samba. I'm
currently using the "User Mode" networking.

I've found several "Howto's" online on using the TUN/TAP interface. These
HOWTO's all seem somewhat outdated.

What is the correct/recommended way to achieve the best performance with
sharing of filesystem/directory from the Ubuntu Host O/S to the Guest
KVM/WinXP O/S?

Should it be TUN/TAP? User-Mode networking? Other option?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Once I understand the issues involved, I would like to create a HOWTO on the
Ubuntu/Debian forums detailing the solution.

Thanks in advance,

Gerry B.
