Summary: Win2K does not boot anymore

Initial Comment:
cpu: AMD Phenom(tm) 9550 Quad-Core Processor
RAM: 4GB
kvm: 73 from sourceforge tar.gz
host kernel version/arch : 2.6.26-1-amd64
guest: Windows 2000 SP4 + 32 bit
command line:
/opt/kvm/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -boot c -hda win2Ksp4_Tormen.img -m 640
-localtime -net nic,model=e1000 -net user -usb -usbdevice tablet

behaviour with some switches:
normal:
blue screen and reboot never ending cycle (too fast to read error message)

-no-kvm-irqchip
blue screen with message
INACESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

-no-kvm-pit
freezes at the end of "white" initial graphical boot screen

-no-kvm switch
boots fine

Long time I don't try this image, so can't tell what KVM version broke the boot.

Updating BIOS from 0501 to 1001 FIXED the issue, now win2k VM boots fine
as did time ago! (probably was with AMD X2, never tried with phenom
before).
Btw, in dmesg I have:
[ 1500.359224] apic write: bad size=1 fee00030
[ 1500.362508] Ignoring de-assert INIT to vcpu 0
[ 1500.378512] Ignoring de-assert INIT to vcpu 0
but as stated the VM boots fine, thanks! (issue can be closed)

Can you update the BIOS on the host machine (not bochs)? There are
microcode problems in some older BIOSes and updating has known to fix
problems.

Same problem with ntp=0
If you are referring to bochs BIOS, I've bochsbios package version
2.3.7-1
Win2K HAL is PC Uniprocessor ACPI
kvm-68 does not compile, can't test
kvm-70 same problem

dmseg output: (my comments in parenthesis)

(loaded module)
[336700.174807] kvm: Nested Paging enabled
[336700.174807] loaded kvm module (kvm-73)

(this after running win2k that crashed)
[336736.428383] apic write: bad size=1 fee00030
[336736.428506] Ignoring de-assert INIT to vcpu 0
[336736.453380] Ignoring de-assert INIT to vcpu 0
asgard64:~#

Hope this will help further

Make sure you have the latest BIOS on your host.

Try loading the kvm-amd module with the parameter 'npt=0'.

What is the HAL in use in your guest?

Here a shot of the bluescreen I get. VM file structure is qcow2 as far as
I recall.
File Added: kvm_73_win2k_BSOD.png
