Thanks for your help, Dave. I tried the script today and it converts the database to an XMLdump. I still have problems importing it into MediaWiki. I used importDump.php and after that I rebuilded the recent changes site, but it is not appearing anywhere nor are there any recent changes.
Nevertheless you wrote that you extended the Script to convert tables as well. Would you like to send me that script as well?
